New Main Event for Upcoming UFC Las Vegas Fight Card
As the UFC returns to Las Vegas, a fight card topped by a bout between Irene Aldana and Holly Holm was set to be the main event. But after Aldana tested positive for COVID-19, the fight was removed from the card.
In its place, the card will not seek to add an additional fight to replace the main event. Instead, the UFC will proceed with the card’s co-main event taking the main event spot. The new main event will be a fight between undefeated middleweight Edmen Shahbazyan and veteran Derek Brunson.
This fight will be Shahbazyan’s fifth fight in the UFC. Three of his four wins in the UFC have come inside the first round. Two of those first-round victories were against highly-regarded fighters Jack Marshman and Brad Tavares.
On the flip side, Brunson is on a two fight win streak, and his most recent loss came to champion Israel Adesanya. And, he has fought a host of highly-regarded fighters over his career including Anderson Silva, Robert Whittaker, Yoel Romero, and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.
Another incredibly interesting fight on this card will be between Vicente Luque and Randy Brown. Both are high-output fighters, which should make this matchup an incredibly exciting one next Saturday night.
